"New York is not a very old city. It was founded some three hundred years ago. New York, the largest city in the USA, is situated in the mouth of the Hudson River. The centre of New York is Manhattan Island which a: the same time is the oldest part of the
city.
New York, one of the leading US manufacturing cities, is the home of big firms, corporations and banks. The most important branches of industry are those producing vehicles, paper and paper products, glass, chemicals and all kinds of machinery. The city has a very busy traffic; its streets and highways are full of cars and buses.
The mouth of the Hudson River makes an excellent harbour with different kinds of ships. Numerous bridges link Manhattan Island with the opposite shores.
Manhattan is the centre of business life with its well-known Broadway, Wall Street and the Stock Exchange. It is the financial district.
Among the inhabitants of New York one can meet people of almost all nationalities who came there during the immigration in the 19th, at the beginning of the 20".h century and later on."
During my winter holidays I read many books about the USA. I watched TV, went to the cinema and helped my parents about the house. I had a good rest during my winter holidays and now I am ready to study again.
